While a faster, higher amperage Level 2 EV charger sounds great, a 40 amp Level 2 EV charger requires a 50 amp circuit breaker. Since most homes can only support a total of 100-200 amps, adding this Level 2 charger could require an expensive panel upgrade. Your electric panel's total amperage should be printed on, or near, the main circuit breaker.
